A – The first zine

The first zine was sort of a jumping off point – a “let’s see what we can do with nothing” experiment.  We discovered, to our delight, that we had much more than nothing all along!  We had Jeff Honeyman, who lent his drawings to the project.  We had Benjamin Critton, who designed the cover and contributed poems.  We had several other excellent contributors, and some donations of time and effort that made the pages come together.

In the end, it was 44 pages long, and it was ours!  We published!

There are still copies kicking around of the limited edition numbering 500. Price: $2.

B – The second project (and first failure?)

After our first move, we tried to push the boundaries a bit.  We made “business poems”: business sized cards inscribed with poems on the back.  It was a set of six.  Supposedly these were offered for sale, but in the end they could not even be given away at the subway entrance to Union Square in NYC.  Ah well… the New York City residents are some of the best at refusing free slips of paper.  We forgive them, they did not know that these cards carried witty little remarks about the difficulties of the writing process.  Furthermore, we are not bitter about the failure.  Publish and learn, yes?

There are a bunch of these left: free.  If you express interest, you might even get free shipping.

Scab Suite – novella

scab-title-page-picture

Our first backed-binding piece is a 106-page novella hand-bound in soft, card stock cover.  The author, Adam Rothstein, says: “It is a story about scabs; because everybody has had a wound and a resulting scab once in their life.”  This is Brute Press’ first singular work of fiction, and we are proud to enter the territory of our industry in a style writ large, as it were.  Nothing is truer than the fictional, so it would seem.

Scab Suite is now available, in the first run.

But wait, there’s more!  Rosalynn Ford has designed and crafted twenty Custom Cover Editions, that feature hand-stitched, three-dimensional artwork.  These will be released for special order and at special locations, TBA.

Price: Regular Release – $5 (now available); Rosalynn Ford Special Edition – $9 (TBA)

Open-faced Mushroom Blastocyst – novella

Fungus is a delicious food, but it makes a confusing way of life.  We’re lucky most eschatology is written in books, rather than in the heated course of the blood vessels in our stomachs.

OFMB is an experiment in “version” publishing.  It is being released in version 2.0, for free.  In exchange, the author requests you provide a bit of feedback about your reading experience.

Price: Version 2.0 – free.  See the link above for information about obtaining a copy, and more about version publishing.
