Welcome

Cannibalism is now available!

1/1/2010

A new year, a new level of brutality. A lot of changes here.

First and foremost: my writing has been changing. Sure, I still think about happy (happy?) things like bridges as metaphors for death, and time-traveling action agents. But the writing is changing, getting a little bit wilder, a little bit less constrained, and a little askance of the typical categories we are all used to.

It began with me sitting down with a pen, a typewriter, and at the computer, and spilling out some strange stuff. It was fun, I thought–maybe an exercise, maybe something I had to get out. But the truth was, I had never had so much fun when I wrote as when I wrote this kind of material, and never did it have as must lasting power on the page. Everything we write dates a bit, when we pick it up days, weeks, months, years later. But this stuff still seemed fresh, exciting. I picked it up to edit it, and I got carried away, reading through to the end like I had never seen it before.

Then I did a iTarot reading with the iTarot iPhone app. You know what it said? I paraphrase, but it said, “fuck what you think the audience wants to read from you.” Pretty much directly, sans the profanity. So here we are. Because if I’m not going to listen to a sibylline iPhone app, who am I going to listen to?

I also wrote a book this summer/fall. The book kept tacking in this direction, and I kept turning it back. It ended up being the stepping stone between the former and the latter, and I feel like I’ve crossed a border. I have another book I’m planning on for this coming year, and this time I’m going to let it go. It’s going to be fun.

In the meantime, here’s a taste of what I’m thinking about. Two pieces for your pleasure. The book might make an appearance here, if I figure out a way to work a POD. Until then, I’m kind of keeping it close, seeing if there is any interest from the publishing/agent world. I’m not counting on it, but you know, you just got to try these things. If you are part of this world, or know someone who is, feel free to drop me a line and I can send you the sample chapter, cover letter, first ten pages, etc. and whatever.

But on to the two pieces:

The Plot” – The longer of the two, by a lot. I recommend the PDF or PDF versions (available on the click through) for easier scrolling and reading. Just take it all in, man.

We Write Manifestos Together” – Originally a blog post, and therefore perhaps more deserving of The Brutalitarian treatment, but decidedly non-non-fiction. I like this a lot, it’s fun and short, and I think its a great fuse to light for the “new” Brute Press.

And even better than these, is my brand new novella, Cannibalism. This is really what I’m talking about! If you liked either of these two last pieces, you should check this out. Sex, food, humanity. It’s all in there. You can pre-order this now, and I should have them ready to ship by mid-January.

Also, we’ve attained a new level capitalist brutality here, with an honest to goodness Storefront. Through a special, totally non-personal business partnership with Google Checkout, we can now accept online ultra-credit payments for some of our more material goods. “Scab Suite“, “Open-Faced Mushroom Blastocyst“, and my brand-new More-Brutal-Mode “Cannibalism” are available for order.

Also of interest are my screenprinting art prints, demonstrating a variety of found artwork in Found Notes, German Surgical Manuals, and Engineering Illustrations series. I’m slowly getting better and more efficient at screenprinting, and more will follow, but you can order these now.

The best way to browse all the items available for sale, i.e. stuff you can give me money for, is to look at the Storefront page, which is easiest to navigate. Of course, you can order from an individual item’s page as well.

But that’s not all!

Because I’m excited about having this new Storefront, I’m creating a Brute Press mega-pack to kick it all off! Capitalism! Literature! Stuff printed on paper! This is what you came to the Internet to buy, folks!

For a limited time, I’m offering the Brute Press mega-pack. When you order the mega-pack, you not only get to yell, “give me the mega-pack!” out loud as you click the Submit button, but you will receive:

Scab Suite
Open-Faced Mushroom Blastocyst
Cannibalism
Neck, my best-and-most-awesome four-color print
Two other prints
Some other Brute Press stuff no longer available to the casual consumer (I think 3-4 things per mega-pack)
A hand-typed letter from me, probably rife with misspellings!

To order just all the stuff available on the website, we’re talking $60. But you can get it all, plus the unavailable-elsewhere stuff, for just $50!

Brute Press Mega-Pack: $50

And that is all! So have a good year, and may the days be undifferentiated from all other days, and enjoy the Brute Press stuff.

Adam

ps. These opening welcome pages are now going to be posted as “Updates” in the regular content, so they show up in the RSS feed. This probably doesn’t matter to anyone but me, but if you wonder why you are reading this on the welcome page and as a “post”, that is why. Cheers!
